Turns a 28 gauge into a 20 gauge | 11/17/2024 |
| Does a great job of putting 20 gauge loads into a 28 gauge hull. Terribly suited to building traditional 28 ga loads. Despite description that wad is suitable for 3/4 oz to 1 oz loads, the wad is completely unsuitable for 3/4 oz to 7/8 loads at 1200-1300 fps using most propellants e.g., 12 gr to 17 gr charges. The wad is marginally suitable for 7/8 oz loads at 1150-1250 fps but expect to need multiple filler wads. I had to add 0.10” to 0.15” in filler/overshot wads to get a good crimp in Fiochi, Chedite and Federal hulls with powders like Unique, 20/28, Pro Reach, Longshot, Blue Dot. This is the same wad Federal uses in its 1 oz heavy field load at 1220 fps. Ironically, BPI provides zero recipes for 1 oz loads with this wad. Considering available published recipes, the wad is probably best suited for high speed loads >1400 fps using charges in the 25-30 gr range. | ||

| Glad that we got everything sorted out for you with new 3/4 oz. loads for the SG28-II wad. The 1/4" x .422" Felt Wad (#12214422) works well to adjust shot column heights in this and other 28ga wads. | ||

Unsuitable for 3/4 oz loads without filler wads | 4/28/2023 |
| Very disappointed for use in my Fiocchi hulls. Stack height is way too low for 3/4 oz of shot, like 3/8 to 1/2 inch, depending on what powder you are using. I dont like the idea of having to buy filler wads. I should have gotten the original wad instead. | ||

| If youre going to use these wads with a 7/8oz load, you have to realize that the shot cup only holds 5/8oz of shot so, that means a full 1/4oz of shot is not protected by the shot cup. | ||

| Be careful when loading with this wad in the 5/8 to 3/4 oz range. You need a OS card. The manual calls for it and it is a MUST for a tight pack. Its better with a 7/8 oz load. | ||

| Great wads. Been loading 7/8 oz. #7 for huns and chukars and it kills them quick and clean. Patterns amazing with light modified and improved modified in my O/U. Highly recommended. | ||
